PDS – the world’s first plastic deformation sensor enables the identification of the plasticization moment
We often hear the question: “Is my structure safe?”
But how can we answer this based only on strain increments without knowing:
- material characteristics
- initial strain-stress state
- and through protective layers
Thanks to our R&D, we’ve developed a solution capable of signaling upcoming yielding or near-to-failure state. Our Plastic Deformation Sensor PDS works like a safety fuse on steel, concrete or composite surfaces. This world-unique monitoring solution is based on a specialised configuration of strain sensors and advanced alghoritms.
The PDS is designed not only for various materials, but also for different measurement technologies, including:
- DFOS (distributed fibre optic sensing)
- FBG
- foil strain gauges
- vibrating wire strain gauges
Plastic Deformation Sensor (PDS) is a unique solution, that allows the unambiguous identification of the plasticisation moment of the monitored material, without the need to know its characteristics (in particular the sigma-epsilon curve), its initial stress state and its current technical condition.
The measurements cover selected areas of the structure that are safety-critical due to the risk of stress extremes. Measurements are taken automatically at a pre-set frequency over time and an early warning system alerts about any irregularities.
